Join us for our first YP Mosquito Art Auction at AMCA 2018!

This year we will be having a new event – the Mosquito Art Auction! The Mosquito Art Auction will serve as a great way to showcase the artwork of our talented YP members. There will be a silent auction during the next annual meeting where a lucky individual or group will be able to purchase and highlight your artwork! Even better, all the proceeds from the auction will go to the YP group to help us better plan for upcoming meetings and events! Some of the artwork that does not get auctioned may be used as prizes for the winners of our famous Promo Booth games in the Exhibit Hall at Booth #117.

This should serve as a great way to support the group you love by doing what you love!

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a YP
  • Have an artistic side that you would love to show to the world
  • Be willing to donate your handcrafts, music, paintings, sketches, poetry, pottery, sculptures, photos, or anything else that shows off your artistic side!
  • Have an idea of what item(s) you would submit (it doesn’t need to be completed now, but it must be before the annual meeting)
  • Be willing to donate your artwork to the YP group (and any proceeds that might come from a future auction)
  • Be able to submit your artwork to the YP group at the annual meeting or shortly before
  • Fill out a progress report in late December-early January regarding the progress on your masterpiece(s)

Do you qualify for the YP Mosquito Art Auction and would love to submit?

If you want to contribute artwork, please use this sign-up form HERE.

Please include the following items:

  • Your name
  • Your contact info
  • Your institution/agency/company
  • How long you’ve been a YP
  • Description of the artwork you are going to submit

We are really excited about this new event! It should serve as a great way to showcase our YP members and promote the group!

Tips for the Upcoming AMCA YP Symposium & Expert Bios

11130149_916061688444198_6270604689700176514_nGreetings, YP!

For the past several months, the YP Committee has planned an symposium and a sponsored social just for you. In this post, you’ll get all the information you need to get the most out of this experience. We have also provided you exclusive content to this year’s expert line-up. Read on…

When: Tuesday, February 9, 2016 | 1:45 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Where: Room 105/106

The Format

The YP committee will host a YP group members’ meeting, which will be open to all YPs and any non-YP AMCA members interested in learning more about the YP group.

Following the members meeting, symposium participation will be limited to YPs. Being able to explore career paths and meet the people who successfully took those steps is a major perk to attending the Expert Symposium. The roundtable portion of the symposium will feature 2-3 experts from 6 different career paths. Young Professionals will have the chance to discuss career information and options with experts from each field before moving on to the next table of experts.

There are 6 mosquito/entomological-related career paths represented this year:

  1. Academia
  2. CDC
  3. Industry Research & Development
  4. Military
  5. Mosquito Control
  6. State Public Health

What the symposium IS:

  • A chance for YPs to meet with industry experts and explore career paths you may be interested in
  • A chance for YPs to learn about career paths you may not have been aware of, or not realized were applicable to your field
  • A great way to broaden your network
  • A chance to ask experts in various fields any question you want!  There are no lectures planned here.
  • An amazing opportunity

What the symposium IS NOT:

  • A job fair
  • Stuffy or formal
  • Something to be missed!

Exclusive Content: Expert Line-Up

Here is your exclusive access to this year’s expert biographies. We provide these so you get to “know” who you’re going to be chatting with, and so the experts don’t have to repeat their backgrounds to each incoming group of YPs in the limited time we have. Plus, each expert offered excellent advice for YPs, so whether you’re attending the symposium or not, it’s a great read.

Tips for attendees:

  • Come with an open mind – even if you know exactly what field you want to be in, or have a job currently, you never know what unforeseen opportunities lie ahead or how your career will evolve. Also, people from different fields work with each other all the time  – it’s helpful to know a bit of background about potential collaborating agencies!
  • Please arrive a few minutes early (to each session) – we want you to have the maximum time available for every table visit.
  • If you have business cards, bring ‘em.
  • Stick around for the YP social! (Sponsored by AMVAC and immediately following symposium) Indulge in a refreshing beverage in an informal and relaxing environment. And, if you had to break a conversation with an expert panelist because of the table rotation, you can pick up where you left off!

YP Group Launches New Website

Professionals in mosquito control will have even more access to the Young Professionals group with the launch of this website.

  • Exclusive members-only section
  • Direct contact with the group committee

As we develop the website, we will be adding in more features that are key to helping our members advance in their careers in the industry.
